Historical reconstruction. Fencing.

I've found a couple of folder with photo and video while re-inspecting old stuff on HDD.
Here is dated by year 2006 video of every-year fencing championship in Belgorod-Dnestrovskiy.

They use to run sets of melee battles with swords and shields, without shields and group battles. Here is complete review of this year championship and photos by Gagarina-Chernyakova, as you can see, a few was changed.

Hey, video looks very funny. Why do they just punch each other to shields. And not even try to do other slashes or pricks

Actually they can't use pricks because of safety restrictions. About hitting shield -- it shows real level of participants, wich have high rated block-level :)

Points counted only for real hits in a head, body, top parts of legs, so it is your interest to penetrate opponent's defense and make a "headshot".

I see, that's why they fighting so monotone. The forget about low punchы and side punches :(

Рульно было. Особенно Гилёв в шкуре на групповых.

About monotonicity: that's sport first of all, and only after it - spectacle. And that's why I like it more that European living history style - here they are not working on public, they fight effectively and mercilessly.

BTW, low punch potentially gives less points(and less damage) than head/chest punches.

Didn't knew that it's a sport, my fault.

But on that video i didn't saw effectively fight, i saw strange people in heavy shell, who exactly know that: "He punch me to head, yeah, i know that for sure" and they blocking 90% punches. And seems them boringly :) Anyway, my choose - kendo.
